AWARE
Project's mission is to instill awareness in today's youth by using the World Wide Web to READ to learn, SHARE knowledge,
and be AWARE to actively seek Global AWARENESS for the future.
"We are South Florida's Community Conversation
Leaders" Let's Talk.
WE SHARE these three directly quoted critical statements made by the Kennedy Kreiger Institute
(2010)
which serve as the foundation for Aware Project to actively pursue the inclusion of online education services for all ID populations:
Intellectual
disabilities are not diseases, nor should they be confused with mental illness. Children
with intellectual disabilities become adults; they do not remain "eternal children." They do learn,
but slowly, and with difficulty. Some studies
suggest that approximately 1% of the general population has intellectual disabilities (when both intelligence and adaptive
behavior measures are used). Many authorities
agree that people with intellectual disabilities develop in the same way as people without intellectual disabilities, but
at a slower rate. Others suggest that persons with intellectual disabilities have difficulties in particular areas of basic
thinking and learning such as attention, perception or memory. Depending on the extent of the impairment -- mild, moderate,
severe, or profound -- individuals with intellectual disabilities will develop differently in academic, social, and vocational
skills.

Whatif
by Shel Silverstein Last night, while I lay thinking here, some Whatifs crawled inside my ear and pranced and partied all night long and sang their same old Whatif song: Whatif I'm dumb in school? Whatif
they've closed the swimming pool? Whatif I get beat up? Whatif there's poison in my cup? Whatif I start to
cry? Whatif I get sick and die? Whatif I flunk that test? Whatif green hair grows on my chest? Whatif
nobody likes me? Whatif a bolt of lightning strikes me? Whatif I don't grow talle? Whatif my head starts getting
smaller? Whatif the fish won't bite? Whatif the wind tears up my kite? Whatif they start a war? Whatif
my parents get divorced? Whatif the bus is late? Whatif my teeth don't grow in straight? Whatif I tear my pants? Whatif I never learn to dance? Everything seems well, and then the nighttime Whatifs strike again!

We are concerned parents committed to creating FAMILY LITERACY. It is our responsibility to help ourselves
so we can help our kids to develop into well-rounded individuals.
The young adults of tomorrow are growing up
with no idea what's going on in the world around us. Too many teenagers have no clue that around the world individuals live
by surviving in extreme poverty, which robs them of their fundamental human rights, and contributes to the spread of AIDS,
political instability, environmental damage and most important - loss of human identity.
We have noticed that
young people know about name brands and basketball teams, but nothing about the world. It's a shame - that's why AWARE
is asking for your help. As a group of concerned parents, we have formed a non-profit organization called Aware Project,Inc,
geared to the young adults of tomorrow.
This organization will enable families to get involved and acquire
knowledge of important world issues. Parents and children will be able to communicate to share their knowledge for a
stronger future.
Our overall vision is to cause Awareness at a young age and make them responsible adults of tomorrow.
We are asking for your support in making this project a success for tomorrow's future by broadening as many young
minds as possible.
We are members of the IAN Project, National Center for Family Literacy, Miami-Dade Reading Council
& The Florida Reading Council....because we care. Email: awareweshare@gmail.com or awareprojectinc@gmail.com

The Interactive Autism Network (IAN), a project collecting
information online fromfamilies of children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) throughout the U.S., was launched in April
2007. Now celebrating its first anniversary, IAN has had a notable impact on autism research. More than 22,000 individuals
in families affected by autism have registered to participate, and more than 70 autism research studies are using IAN data
or recruitment services to support their efforts

We
hope to echo the words of Albert Einstein: "A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited
in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical
delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection
for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion
to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty."
